What, you may ask, is a press preview? You’re probably familiar with the concept of a preview. It’s a performance of the show that is open to the public prior to the official Opening Night of the show. We generally have one or two previews for our shows.
(Interesting side note: Broadway shows may preview for weeks, even months! There are even cases where a Broadway show closes during previews, before it ever opens. That happened once in the history of Pegasus Theatre, with the second production of Bluebeard by Charles Ludlam. The previews did their job, which was to tell us what was working and what wasn’t working about the show. In the case of Bluebeard, it had been several years since the first production, and with the changes in contemporary culture over that time, the script had become less relevant and not as funny. Sometimes it takes getting a comedy up on its feet to see something you missed on the written page. It broke our hearts to cancel it, but it was the right thing to do.)
Normally, the press is invited to attend with complimentary passes on Opening Night. If they can’t attend on Opening Night, most theatres allow them to attend on a later night. In some cases, it’s helpful to have the press attend before Opening. It’s a risk because you have to feel comfortable that the show will be ready for an audience. But the advantage is that you get reviews a little earlier, and that can make a big difference in attendance on Opening weekend.
So we’re having a Press Preview tonight! And because comedies are always best seen with a good sized audience, we’ve priced all tickets tonight as “pay what you can” to encourage a good crowd.
We hope you’ll be one of that crowd! Tickets are available at thenaughtybits.bpt.me.
If you can’t make it tonight, you have six other chances! The show runs from August 14-29 on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 pm. The location is the Bath House Cultural Center. If you’ve never been there, here are directions:
From Buckner Blvd, head west on Northcliff Drive. You’ll go one block through a residential neighborhood before being at the top of a hill overlooking White Rock Lake. Continue straight on Northcliff down the hill and you’ll end up at the Bath House. Parking is free and plentiful!
We look forward to seeing you at the show!
