Raymond Banda

Raymond Banda

Raymond Banda is a man of many talents, including acting, puppeteering, and directing. For many years, he was the iconic Lt. Foster in our Living Black & White™ series, until other commitments pulled him away. But we manage to drag him back once or twice a year to direct shows in our RadioVizion™ series! Read more about this versatile theatre artist.

How long have you been involved in theatre?

Since high school. I stumbled into what was called the “Weird Wing” which housed the drama, choir and band rooms. I auditioned for a student written piece and stayed for the duration. Thanks to a marvelous teacher.

How long have you been involved with Pegasus Theatre?

Since 1997. My first production was a Living Black & White™, Another Murder, Another Show! by Kurt Kleinmann. Having grown up glued to the television watching old movies it felt like a dream come true.

Any favorite moments so far with Pegasus that stand out for you?

So many! Expecting a baby at the same time Lt. Foster (my character) and his wife Bubbles were expecting in A Critical Case Of Murder! stands out. I also experienced what I call a “Fonzie” moment as Lt. Foster in Full Moon Murders! That’s where you hear an audible audience reaction to you simply walking onstage. The only thing missing was a chorus “WOOOO’s” but I’ll take it.

You have directed Pegasus Theatre’s reading series for several years now. Tell us something interesting about that experience, perhaps something you especially like about the readings?

I enjoy the thrill of having a short period of time to get the reading/show on its feet and seeing how it has grown into its own unique animal. Each year has seen us raise the bar, thanks to the cast, crew and audience members, both old and new.

What do you do when you aren’t working with Pegasus?

I work as a retail manager and spend time with my 2 beautiful young daughters.

Looking back at all your experiences, who would you say has influenced you the most in your theatrical career?

I’m always amazed at how, after all these years, the lessons of my high school drama teacher, Brenda Prothro remain fresh in my mind. And I know that I’m not alone in that.

Q: What comes next for you?

A: To coin a phrase, “Another reading, another show”!
