Q: How long have you been involved in improv?
I first started writing/performing improv on stage around ’99-’00, but I’ve been addicted to making people laugh since about the second grade.
Q: How long have you been involved with Pegasus Theatre?
The Naughty Bits is my first show with the Pegasus Theatre, but I have known some of the other cast members for close to 15 years, so it has been a pleasant experience.
[Editor’s note: What, the rest of us are chopped liver?!]
Q: Any favorite moments in your career that stand out for you?
There are these moments that happen with improv where I’m in that perfect zone and so is everyone else on stage, when the audience is on our side and the scene we’re in is hitting just right; everything is in sync. It doesn’t happen every show but when it does, it’s almost transcendent. That is my favorite moment. I’m just lucky that it happens over and over again.
Q: You’re currently in rehearsals for The Naughty Bits. The press release says it’s developed by The Naughty Bit players. How does that work?
Everyone pitches ideas and premises, some of us bring in completed pieces that get shaped and edited through table reads and rehearsals. I think the final show will be representative of the diversity of the cast and will really highlight everyone’s individual strengths. It should be a lot of fun.
Q: What do you do when you aren’t working with Pegasus?
I still haven’t quite figured out what I want to do when I grow up, but I currently do voice work for several animated shows and I busy myself with riding my bike and hanging out with my dogs.
Q: Looking back at all your experiences, who would you say has influenced you the most in your career?
I learned how to hone my improv and writing skills from a lot of great teachers, including Jim Kuenzer and Chad Cline, and I had my baptism by fire by joining Section 8, an already established and successful comedy troupe. But I’d have to say my biggest influence is my mom. She will always be the funniest person I’ve ever met.
Q: What comes next for you?
More of the same. Churning out sketches and trying to make people laugh. Dinner with the wife. The good stuff.
