A behind the scenes look at our current Churchmouse production “None of the Above” by Jenny Lyn Bader!
With any small theatre like Pegasus Theatre/Churchmouse, I think you’ll find that the producers stay close to the show during rehearsals, to ensure the show reflects the values and standards of the theatre. That’s certainly true at Pegasus. Kurt and I attend all production meetings as well as several rehearsals before Opening Night. We’re there to troubleshoot, remove barriers, and generally ensure the quality of the final product.
The current production is a clear exception to our process. You see, Kurt had back surgery in late July, and the recovery has been slow. So we put the show process entirely in the hands of our co-producer Phil Allen and the rest of our core team, a group of people who form the foundation of Pegasus when it comes to producing, directing, marketing, and designing. And we couldn’t be happier with what they’ve accomplished!
It’s a very liberating feeling, and it’s another step in our long-term journey to ensure Pegasus Theatre outlives its founder. We know we need this strong foundation, colleagues steeped in Pegasus values and producing philosophy, and we started building it a few years ago.
This summer the strategy paid off, with dividends. Everything Kurt or I might have done was covered by someone on the core team (about 10 people). And the result was a production of which we’re quite proud.
This isn’t the first time our core team has come through for us. We could not have expanded our offerings beyond the annual Eisemann production without them. But this is the first time they flew solo, and it clearly won’t be the last.
